Description
Citipati (Tib.: Dutro Dagpo)
This lord and lady are the principal Dharma protectors associated with the Vajrayogini tantric systems.
Meditation on the charnel grounds was a common practice with the Indian Mahasiddhas in the Heruka Chakrasamvara/Yogini lineage of transmission.
These grounds were places covered with human bones, where corpses were brought to be cremated
(if one could afford the wood) or more often, left to be consumed by wild animals. They were far from town where no one went, exept for these yogis who came to contemplate on the impermanence of all phenomena.
These skeletons are also a common feature of the 'Cham' Lama dances that are held by the monasteries.
